Retired U.S. Navy SEAL B.J. Kirby is the general manager of Industrial Recycling Services, a PalletOne Inc. company formed in 2011 to help businesses achieve environmental sustainability goals. He oversees all facets of the recycling operation, managing teams at plants in North Carolina and Wisconsin.
Kirby joined PalletOne, America’s largest new wood pallet manufacturer, in 2013 as an HR/safety manager. Within a few months, he transitioned to a pallet plant manager. When the chance to lead a young company — Industrial Recycling Services — was presented, Kirby readily accepted. “It was something new within this organization,” he said. “This seemed like a perfect opportunity to put a team together and create a process that fits the PalletOne culture.”
After attending Tennessee Wesleyan College, Kirby joined the U.S. Navy in 1991 with the goal of becoming a member of the elite U.S Navy SEALs, the Navy’s principal special operations force. He joined the SEALs and eventually worked with three distinct teams. He retired after 21 years of service in 2012 as a Chief Petty Officer.
